Explore the wines of Piedmont
If you are trying to get a deeper understanding of Italian wine, Piedmont is one of the most beatiful wine regions to get to know because it introduces us to a completely new set of wine grapes like Erbaluce, Nascetta, Timorasso, Freisa, Grignolino, Ruchè, Pelaverga and many
different types of Nebbiolo and Barbera. Piedmont (Piemonte) is considered a top wine region in Italy because of the high quality of wine, 85% of the production is DOC wine.
When wine lovers think of Piedmont, they immediately think of Barolo and Barbaresco, which are famous for their Nebbiolo-based wines. Surprisingly, Barolo and Barbaresco only account for 3% of Piedmont’s production, so there is quite a bit more to uncover! For example there are several other denominations like Gattinara and Roero that are less known. Besides, since 2014 there is a new denomination, Nizza, which is a new reality of Barbera vine variety that has strict production limitations and regulations.
